School Reopening Guidelines

As we prepare to reopen KICS, our approach will be governed by common-sense measures to prevent the spread of COVID19.  We will remain adaptive and make adjustments as we need to. We will adhere to all government guidelines related to COVID 19 and will follow all procedures implemented by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. Please do all you can to reinforce these behaviors in fighting germs at home as we do so at school.

  • KICS classes will take place from 8:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m on Monday through Thursday. Friday will be a virtual day from 8:30 a.m to 12 p.m.  Teachers will be available for students to connect as needed. AP classes will take place virtually between 8 a.m-12 p.m.
  • The KICS campus will be open from 8:15 a.m and will close at 3:45 p.m. Students may be dropped off between 8:10 a.m to 8:25 a.m. in the morning and must be picked by 3:30 p.m
    • Students must be dropped off at their respective gates (Primary, Secondary & Pre-K). Students will exit the vehicle, wash their hands, and go through a temperature check before entering campus.
      • Parents can accompany students to the handwashing stations and temperature checks and will say goodbye at the gate.
    • Pre-K pick-up will begin at 3:10 p.m.
    • Primary parents can arrive for pick-up beginning at 3:20 p.m.
    • Secondary parents can arrive for pick-up beginning at 3:25 p.m.
    • Any students who are walking home from school must exit campus immediately upon dismissal. Parents should send an e-mail to their respective principal: principal@kicsrw.org or secondary.principal@kicsrw.org.
    • There is no early drop off and no late pick-up. A student that is dropped off early or picked up late, will not be allowed to attend classes the next day.
  • There will be no before school or after school activities.
  • Masks will be worn at all times.
    • Blue masks during the morning.
    • Orange masks after the midday temperature check.
    • KICS will provide two masks for each student. If a student loses a mask, KICS will give them another one, and parents will be notified and charged for the replacement mask.
  • Temperature checks will happen twice a day.
    • Once on arrival, after they’ve washed their hands.
    • Once during the midday hour.
    • Any temperature of 37.3 degrees Celcius or above will be considered high, and students will be sent to the Nurse’s office.
  • Social distancing will be at one-meter apart at all times on campus.
  • KICS will have a strict policy for visitors. Any visitors must be approved by a member of the leadership team and will need to complete a pre-screening form before accessing the campus.

Please contact Nurse Patience Nyadzo with a phone call/Whatsapp message at 0782758243 during non-work hours. E-mail can be used during work hours: pnyadzo@kicsrw.org.

What if a student is sick?

  • If a student or staff exhibits any flu-like or COVID19 symptoms, the student or staff must stay home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.
  • If a student is sick, and it is not COVID19 related, we will handle this as we usually do. Students must be fever free, diarrhea free and vomit free for 24 hours before returning to campus.

What about COVID19?

  • If a member of the household has tested positive for COVID19, that student or staff member must remain in self-isolation and quarantine for 14 days, AND the member of the household who tested positive receives a negative COVID19 test. Once this is completed, the student can return to KICS. This process will be monitored by the School Nurse.
    • In this instance, KICS will provide electronic or physical packets for the week. Teachers will be available for check-ins on Friday.
  • If a student or staff member contracts COVID19 and tests positive, KICS will transition to online learning. KICS will remain closed for at least 3 days to allow for deep cleaning and contact tracing. KICS will work closely with local officials and the Ministry of Health for guidance on when KICS can reopen.

Students should be sent to campus with snacks and multiple water bottles for the day.

In an effort to minimize many hands touching common surfaces, KICS will not provide water fountains/refill stations. If a student runs out of water, KICS will provide a water bottle at an additional charge.

Students will not be allowed to share food or drinks.

There are three options for lunch at KICS.

  • Lunch can be sent with students at the beginning of the day.
  • Lunch can be sent with a worker at least 15 minutes before their lunchtime and delivered to their respective gate.
  • Parents can individually arrange for a lunch delivery with one of the restaurants listed below. Parents must make these arrangements independently of KICS and payments will be made between parents and the restaurant.
