KICS will Finish the Year Online

Student Learning online

On April 17, 2020, the Government of Rwanda, announced a two-week extension of the current measures of lockdown to combat the COVID19 virus.  We remain thankful for their strong leadership to preserve and protect every life here in the country.

As close as we are to the end of the school year, now that this extension has been announced, we want to also share that KICS will continue and finish the rest of the school year online, through KICS Learning Continues.

To our students, it is so sad not to see you. We look forward to the day when we can physically see each other again. Let’s finish these next few weeks strongly. Thanks for your great attitudes in the midst of this pandemic.

To our Seniors, the Class of 2020, we are so sorry. This is not what anyone imagined your career at KICS would finish like.  We will work hard to find ways to honor and celebrate you.  We are proud of each of you.

To our parents, thank you for your continued partnership. Without your strong partnership with each of our teachers, this could not be possible. Thank you for your hard work and effort.

To our staff, thank you, thank you, thank you. This has not been easy. You have risen to the challenge and embodied what it means to be a servant leader who impacts the world for Christ. Thank you.

Here is what the rest of the year will look like:

  • April 20th – May 14thKICS Learning Continues as it has been.
  • May 11th – May 14th: Assessments will take place during these days in grade-appropriate ways.  May 14th will be the last day of formal instruction.
  • May 15th – May 18th: Teachers will be working on report cards and preparing for Parent/Teacher/Student Conversations.
  • May 19th-May 21st: Parent/Teacher/Student Conversations to review where each student is, and what their Individual Learning Path for the summer ahead looks like.
  • May 22nd: KICS’ last day with a grade/mission level celebration.

The decision to continue the remainder of the year online versus waiting until another announcement, really comes down to planning. With our school year ending on May 22nd, in order to finish well, we need to be able to plan and prepare well.  We’ll be working towards assessments for students at each level. We will look to end the year with conversations around each student to ensure parents and teachers and students are on the same page.  We will also work hard to ensure each student has an Individual Learning Path to help them this summer. We will finish the 2019-2020 school year strong, together.

There are still more details to be worked out. Our teams will be hard at work on this in the weeks ahead. We will continue to keep you updated.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Please find attached a Parents-Students- KICS Online Calendar to help you visualize the remainder of the year.

Thankful for each of you and thankful for the KICS family.
